Career Interruption of Japanese Women: Why Is It So Hard to Balance Work and Childcare?

The author of this article examines the reasons behind career interruptions for women focused on childrearing in Japan, and the effects of such interruptions on the employment and income levels of childrearing women in Japanese society. The author also discusses the effects of Japan's employment structure and recruiting process on the careers of mothers who want to continue working after childbirth.
