Security Clearances in Japan- ACCJ Event

On September 22, the ACCJ was honored to host event on Security Clearances in Japan - Background, Prospects & Challenges, with opening remarks by Minister of State for Economic Security Sanae Takaichi and U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Raymond F. Greene.

Their remarks were followed by a panel of experts including ACCJ President Om Prakash, Mr. Shigeru Kitamura, Ambassador Christopher LaFleur, Dr. Akira Igata, and Mr. Toshio Dokei. The discussion was moderated by Jason Hyland.

The discussion was focused on the Japanese government’s plans to expand its security clearance system in order to facilitate international business cooperation. Doing so will allow both the Japanese government and the private sector to participate more fully in international projects with the United States and other like-minded partners.

The panelists shared their expertise on how Japan can implement a security clearance process compatible with that used by the U.S. and close partners, the impact on Japanese and multinational businesses, and the challenges Japan faces in adopting a more comprehensive security clearance system.

Thank you to all who joined, especially Minister Takaichi for her efforts to strengthen Japan's economic security, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Raymond F. Greene, and our panelists.

The ACCJ looks forward to continuing the important dialogue on security clearances and engaging with the Government of Japan to promote Japan-U.S. economic security and further strengthen our bilateral partnership.
