October 4, 2021 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) congratulates Mr. Fumio Kishida, on his election as Japan’s 100th Prime Minister.

“The ACCJ looks forward to working with Prime Minister Kishida’s administration to accelerate Japan’s recovery from the Covid-19 crisis and to realize the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead for the Japanese economy and international business relations in Japan,” said Jenifer Rogers, ACCJ President.

The ACCJ and its more than 3,000 individual members and over 600 member companies are working in partnership with the Japanese government on common areas of interest including net zero carbon emissions targets by 2050, health and retirement, and the digital transformation of Japanese businesses and government.

“In the near term, we applaud the government for its pandemic response and believe urgent action is necessary to introduce a more transparent regulatory framework that allows both Japanese and foreign-based invested companies to bring essential personnel and their families to Japan, including new assignees, in a safe manner,” said Rogers. “We also look forward to the early reopening of Japan to short-term business travel and student and scholar mobility, in a science-based way that preserves public health.”
