Advocating on behalf of US businesses in Japan

The ACCJ supports the collective interests of its members by working to effect changes that improve the international business environment in Japan through close monitoring of regulations and policy, advocacy letters, public comments, viewpoints and other documents.

Along with frequent and direct interaction with policymakers in Japan and the United States, the ACCJ is able to advocate for the implementation of policies that facilitate commerce and create meaningful business opportunities for its members.

The ACCJ also advances member interests through annual visits with key U.S. and Japanese legislators and administration officials during its Washington, D.C, and Diet Doorknocks.

Japanese Government Outreach

The ACCJ works diligently to promote good U.S. - Japan business relations with the Japanese government. From roundtable discussions with high-ranking government officials to one-on-one meetings with members of the Japanese Diet, ACCJ members meet frequently with government representatives on issues relevant to member business interests.

Since 1994, the ACCJ has conducted its annual Diet Doorknock, an intensive three-day outing during which multiple teams of ACCJ members take their policy recommendations directly to the Diet through meetings with dozens of Japanese lawmakers, including cabinet members.

This is the Chamber's largest consolidated advocacy initiative, and it is an effective means of assuring that U.S. - Japan relations remain strong.

Through Press ReleasesPublic CommentsViewpoints and other publications, the ACCJ offers the Japanese government valuable input and concrete recommendations on legislative proposals under consideration.

USA Government Outreach

The ACCJ maintains a close working relationship with the U.S. government, as a means of continually improving U.S. - Japan relations and promoting the interests of American and other non-Japanese investors.

The ACCJ's interaction with the U.S. government includes a monthly briefing with the U.S. Ambassador, frequent contact with Embassy officials acting as liaisons to ACCJ committees, and regular consultations with government officials visiting from Washington.

The annual Washington, D.C. Doorknock also keeps the ACCJ in the loop on important developments in U.S. - Japan relations and provides the U.S. government with valuable input on policy prescriptions from ACCJ members actively doing business in Japan.

The D.C. Doorknock is a coordinated advocacy effort in which selected ACCJ leaders accompany the Chamber President to Washington D.C. to provide policy-makers with information to improve U.S. - Japan relations and enhance the business environment in Japan for U.S. companies.
